A huge number of Americans are hostile towards this adventure. Mass casualties from a ground war would sour even more. I fear that Trump will be persuaded to use tactical nukes to try and end this.
Sobering reality check. The 82nd Airborne troops must be feeling a lot like the D-day landing troops in June 1944 en route to the beaches of Normandy - only their chances are slimmer in the Persian Gulf if Trump decides to use them.

We’re dealing with a regime that’s been hostile since 1979 and has only grown more capable over time. Stopping that before it builds even more lethal weapons and layers of drones isn’t losing—it’s common sense.

I think Russia is the most “safe” owing to its military capacity gained during the ukraine war and ability to produce oil.
Iran itself only matters insomuch as hormuz oil exports matter globally. Asia makes the most use of them…
