Your observations hold up well 25 months later.

Thanks DB. It's nice to know its not all cringe, looking back at myself in the past.

Beauty.

Please know that if you don’t actively respond to me, I will not be insulted. I do not want to monopolize your time.

I hope my little observations catch on with others who are reading you. It doesn’t have to be you.

Generally, at this point, I’m proceeding on basis that you are correct, your judgement is correct, not perfect, but a reliable guide, the output of great effort and intelligence and I intend to sup at your table.

I called is the habit of being right. This is my advantage. I have done well by it, this habit of being right)emphasis on habit) and when I see it in others I get very excited. My pantheon is: you, epigumus, el gato malo, Nicolo soldo, Paul Kingsnorth, NS Lyon’s (oh my!) Schelberger and inimitable Matt Tiabbi, Matt is the best.

Welcome to my world.

Quite, though it is interesting to examine what NATO provides to Europe.

It isn't Article 5, which has a rather awkward 'may' in it.

It is however the entire command and control infrastructure. And the Strategic Reconnaissance without which such a structure is deaf, dumb and blind. The TTPs, the conformity of ammunition and, some, equipment.

Yes the EU wants an Army. Indeed it has one in the Eurocorps, which operates entirely under EU, not member state control. It does not however have any Strat Recon worthy of the name and would have to spend a cool trillion to be merely 20 years behind the gumps.

So the EU gets the showy beancounter forces, without the expensive but vital infrastructure. Auxiliaries to the American legions.

Meanwhile the US Pacific fleet does not use NATO standards.

It may be worth pondering why.
