An expectation of progress in the general sense is a shared optimism. Who among us dares to see the good in our times?
It is impossible to answer the question if it is forbidden to frame it. We are speechless in the face of so many unmentionable issues. We are preoccupied with substitutes, and the accurate description of our predicament is seemingly prohibited.
This is one sign of the end of Empire. Things simply do not mean what they used to. Nothing is as it was, and the values applied to appraise the new reality seem upside, as if reflected in a spoon.
