The Liberal Democratic West is increasingly Sovietised. What it used to champion as its core values - individual freedom, the free market - are in retreat. National and international energy markets are the site of state intervention, the predictable result of this attempted economic planning being inflation and shortages leading to deindustrialisation and forecasted blackouts.
The realm of individual liberty is a limited kingdom. Freedom of speech is contingent upon increasingly authoritarian interventions. Liberal liberty is a paradox, an impossible bargain between the demands of the self and those of others. The result is the tyranny of the minorities, whose grievances are enshrined in laws which effectively discriminate against the outlying majority.
